Leandro Vieira is a fouth degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt that started practicing the sport around 1986 at only 5 years old. Along with his two older brothers - Leonardo and Ricardo - he founded one of the top competition teams in BJJ: Checkmat.
Leandro was brought to the Bay Area in 2011 by world-famous mixed martial arts pro team American Kickboxing Academy. His arrival had a tremendous impact on the fight team mindset. You might recognize his face walking out in UFC events next to Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez and other high ranked fighters from AKA. Leandro not only helped to improve the fight team's ground skills but also grew Checkmat's presence in the Bay Area by constantly placing 1st at local tournaments.
His experience with MMA brings a new way to understand and learn BJJ. His concept and technique are what made the difference to the AKA fight team and his students. His passion for the sports is what makes him love to share his knowledge with the world.
